Even though the temps are still cooling off, we’re officially a few weeks into fall! One of our favorite family activities is taking the family out to the country to walk and roam in the rows and rows of orchards, and to finally let your kiddos put things in their mouths without consequence!

Apple picking is a great way to get everyone outside, experience a petting zoo, bring home bushels of flavorful fall fruit, and get into the spirit of the season. Ask your friends where they go and most likely you’ll have quite a variety of annual favorites! Here are some of our go-tos, with amenities listed, for you to ‘pick from’ (See what I did there?) complete with reviews from area parents!

Baugher’s Orchards

1015 Baugher Rd, Westminster. 410-857-0111, baughers.com

"Our personal family favorite, Baugher’s offers both apples and pumpkins. Take a tractor out to the fields and pick to your heart’s content, then head in for cider donuts, a play area and bounce house and enclosed farm petting zoo." - Heather D.

Larriland Farms

2415 Woodbine Rd, Woodbine. 301-854-6110 or 410-442-2605, pickyourown.com

“We went to Larriland Farms two weeks ago. The trees were low and perfect for picking for the kids. It was a nice view and had plenty of apples for picking. Everyone enjoyed it.” - Barbara D.

“We've only been to Larriland, but we really like it because the kids can easily pick for themselves. They also don't have a lot of entertainment things, which we appreciate because don't want to do those things!” - Megan W.

Butler's Orchard

22222 Davis Mill Rd, Germantown. 301-972-3299, butlersorchard.com

Kent Fort Farm

135 Eastern Lane Stevensville, MD. 410-643-1650, facebook.com/kentfortfarm

“The Eastern Shore’s best kept orchard secret! A little less populated with families and wonderful fruit for littles to pick from the tree. We love it there!” - Ally C.

Gaver Farm

5501 Detrick Road, Mount Airy, 21771. 301-865-3515, gaverfarm.com

“Very nice farm. Nice apple picking. Love all the other fun activities for the kiddos!” - Kristina C.

“I do love Gaver. They not only have Apple picking but a pretty awesome fall festival that’s great. They have a cute shop that sells decorations and other fun fall stuff. It’s definitely a one stop shop, which is nice!” - Barbara D.
