Spoiler Alerts! In Birth Chatter

spoilers ruin things don't let them ruin your birth planning

Nothing is more exciting than discussing your pregnancy and birth planning. It can be a great relief to find a birth due date board or online Mom’s group to start your chatting. Heading into your pregnancy, you may have felt mighty and strong, and excited to dive in, just like watching your favorite Khaleesi do battle with her dragons.

Maybe, though, you’re watching or absorbing information at your own pace. You’re excited to explore a birth planning method, or a class, or find ideas. You haven’t sat down with your popcorn yet to savor the moment, like watching the newest episode of your must see show.

Before you can, in comes a spoiler! Someone in your community group online heads you off at the pass with wary information about why they didn’t enjoy that method for their birth, to be careful of this provider, etc. It’s aggravating to try and watch something after being influenced; why wouldn’t birth planning feel the same?

The information they’re giving is useful, you might have found out or concluded the same in your own timeline and fashion. It’s meant to be kind and helpful, so don’t discredit the intentions of the person’s passion. However, it can make you doubt your ideas, feel discouraged in your excitement, and, well, ‘spoil’ your journey!

How can you avoid these derailing conversations, or make sure you’re 100% supported in your fact finding mission?

The longer your pregnancy, the more you can enjoy the benefits of your doula’s support, and know they’re with you every step of the way to help you make the most of your options and choices, without pressuring or influencing your decision making.

What better way to feel confident and successful in your choices? After all, the popcorn tastes much fresher when you’re viewing your birth track untainted.
