What To Pack For Your Hospital Stay

starting to make a list of things to put in your hospital bag is easier with our hand guide from our postpartum and labor doula team

So many things to pack, so little you need!

With the average postpartum stay in the hospital being two nights, it might be tempting to throw a ton of things into your suitcase - just in case. Truth be told - while some items will be helpful to your adjustment, the majority of things needed to rest and nourish your baby can be found at the hospital and provided for you!

So what goes in that bag?

Lounge Clothes

Helpful for staying comfy and resting at all hours of your days and nights.

Nursing pillow

Beginning to feed your baby will be more comfortable with the tools and support pillows you’ll

be using at home

Nursing bra

It’s a great idea to begin using the items you’ll use at home while resting in bed. Make sure it’s a lounge bra with support (but no underwire!)

Charger sticks

It’s hard to find those plugs and in bed you might not want to get up! This allows you to charge your phone easily

Beach towels

At some point you’ll be showering and washing up at the hospital; this keeps you dry and fresh more than the tiny, thin and scratchy towels on hand

Beautycounter Cleansing Balm

This all in one is a lip balm, hydrating cream, makeup remover, face wash and more.

Dry Shampoo

Even if you don’t feel like getting out of bed, this keeps you fresh

Podcasts

Sometimes sleep comes easier when you’re listening

Sleeping bag

Partner may not have the best sleeping arrangements, but a good warm blanket or zip up is a must

Baby’s Going Home Outfit

Looking for those adorable homebound pictures? This is the only item for baby you’ll need!

No matter your stay, keep it simple. Bring in food or use Uber Eats to deliver snacks and meals. Above all else, don’t stress or focus on work tasks during this time. It’s time to enjoy your baby and learn!
