Is My Doula Welcome In the Hospital?

your doula is invested in your experience, and maintaining a great relationship and knowledge of your hospital and provider is a big part of what we offer in terms of support!

Having a great relationship with your provider, we know you might be nervous about inviting another player into that game. After all, what are the ‘motives’ and roles of a doula when interacting with medical providers? Will your OB or Midwife be hesitant of your plans to have a doula in the delivery room?

We’re proud to say that we have worked hard to build a relationship of mutual respect, knowledge and familiarity with the hospitals and providers our families birth with. Many times our clients are relieved by the look of recognition our team members receive when they enter the labor and delivery ward at their birth location. The more knowledge our team has through developing this relationship of the hospital, procedures and individual care providers, the better we can serve both our clients AND the staff in creating a harmonious environment.

Since the relationship between a laboring family and a doula is stronger and little nuances of a person’s demeanor, laboring pattern and more can be more readily picked up by the doula, nurses and doctors enjoy that source of knowledge to help them in providing care and understanding how the family is experiencing birth. The doula is the ‘glue’ to bringing everyone together and up to speed.

Knowing the process of getting into a delivery unit makes the trip from home to hospital easier as well. The doula’s guidance can usually make these transitions much easier!

It is in the style of communication that we relay to the hospital and staff, both during your birth experience and in behind the scenes networking with them, that helps us to provide stellar care to our families.

We are proud to be welcomed and referred to by hospitalists, doctors, midwives and other families who have witnessed first hand the experience of having a doula that works well with their care team, not against them!
